Looking Back at St. Stephen's experimental writings: 5 and Dime

Five & Dime: (or 1 in 10 + 1): [1-5; pp. 200-210]


The above link is to a piece of writing by St. Stephen of Thee Uncondemning Monk. Thee Uncondemning Monk is not simply about sound and light via "music" and "film," but rather we embrace/borrow/glean/steal (so far) any and all methods for fabrication, creation, the making of artifacts and markers of splace-time, what peoples call recordings, we capture these explorations, even the mundane ones, especially the mundane (how sacred it can become, and then secular again, not like the turning on and off of a light switch, no, not a nightlight, but also not not a luminous ding). 

Thee eradication of the frozen, as Kafka and Walter Benjamin request of us, as Nietzsche calls for we who hear and take up our hammers, to philosophize and sound out the hollow, others call for a tuning-fork, that we should tune-in, turn-on, drop out, DROP BACK IN (so often forgotten, we must shout it now). We also know, as you may to (you will shortly), that it is high-time, neigh passed tide-highs to Philosophize with an A-Bomb, perhaps now its time to vaporize with even never vibratory technologies... sucking that all in and blowing it out once again, do we make imagary breath when we speak in our head? 

The above piece of writing puts into action the bricolage technique; as well as other methods gleaned from Burroughs and Gysin; and other unconscious infantile and influential  flows... we hope you enjoy this short writing (image) experiment...

Album review by St. Stephen ov Thee Uncondemning Monk



Let just jump write in with what St. Stephen wrote (on behalf of Thee UM) on FaceBook: you may not understand or get from the title how anti-bigoted this album is; but it is, as we see it, a rejection of stereotype of what people OUGHT to Be, not what they are or want to be, as such homosexuality, indeed the entire discourse that is known as Queer Theory (QT) has largely been overshadowed by a loud minority that seek approval from breeders or the ideal white middle-upper-middle class family and its "christian" values, and seek to normalize, homogenize, codify, the sexuality of non-heterosexuals... as if having sexual relationships with persons of your own biological sex makes one be a certain way; this is not true (at least not necessarily so), people adopt or lean toward these cultural identities, and instead of making them their own, they conform to their idealization of these stereotypes; and if anything this should be the reverse (inverse, diametrical opposite?), we should adapt these cultural identities to our needs (if we must use them at all)... I hope that I have been clear in my explanation of my interpretation (and may my utter seriousness not mar the enjoyability of what is an unpretentious and enjoyable album)! ROCK Gangsta!

December Update: Future Senarios and Current Currents

Greetings from Erehwon,

Much has happened. We will start with the great new first and then wind down. We are proud to say that Thee Uncondemning Monk is now regular present in the sway of Coyotel Priest A.A. This is a great occasion for celebration, some mote it be, to control abandon embrace a historical modern destruktion, empty form, life returns, even before the winter, hiding in the cave tiny one, virus goes, what have we done, surely not done enough, you don't even stand there you sit, you sit, you sit, in the sway; go through not around, there is no other passage way; go through to the crown, there is not but a fool on he/r way, as such it is a gloomy day and another day of WAR before the red of a dawn; no clock we wind you; the day grew longer, and time personal, space was as it was, now different. We prepare, we continue on our mission (http://nightatnoon.com/leyba2/press.html).

AIN23 is now being fully supported through our A.A. channels as such we will continue to contribute to all sound and visual projects they here-forth offer... and this too is another part of bridge-work and as we understand the free-radical has been trasnforming in his potientila (Nuit) that s/he (Hadit) are able to become, one is infinite says A.C. As such Audio Project #4 23 Seconds In Time Audio Project is still open!

Many new track have been release on SoundCloud; a few on Reverbnation on FaceBook, and a bunch are being worked on. A semi-secret/secret project is on it way to reveal its truth to those who we shall appear to, those that has found us. As we get closer to this secret project we might and might not talk about it here; these things have not been decided, and as such whatever transpires, there will be something very new on the horizon.

Thee UM has also been working with Hal's Contact Compilation where one minute songs are the standard... we are currently engage in a chain permutation and can hardly wait for this to be realized, but the fun is only starting as the chain-mails pour in...See our latest in Contact Compilation 5 (collaborations only): http://halmcgee.bandcamp.com/album/contact-compilation-5-2011

So, as you can see, much has been happening.

And not just one more aside, but a great thing, we are also now supporting the work of Brunhild Ferrari (http://www.lucferrari.org/).So we all can look forward to collaborations of a different nature.

Sunday Operetta to Marx

Greetings readers of Thee Uncondemning Monk,

Many new things are happening, but today we would like to talk a little about our latest release, Sunday Operetta to Marx: Zen Vampire University. But before getting into the new release we would like to reiterate what our project is, in part, about. First, Thee UM and music, what is the relationship?

As you may have already read, we are not actually what one would call a musician. But that is not right, Thee UM members are musicians, that much we are sure of, but more honestly, they are not concerned with "making music" as much as exploring sound. We see ourselves as sound-painters, or sound-sculptors.

Sunday Operetta to Marx: Zen Vampire University was created by listening to a university lecture on Marx. The lecture was given on 11 Nov, 2011. In particular that lecture was on Part V of Das Capital, Volume I, by Karl Marx. While we listened to the lecture, we decide that we would make some music for the lecture, to make it a bit more interesting for others. But, but the sound quality of the lecture was so atrocious that we "had" to removed it from the music. This cut-out is what would become the Operetta. So we cut-out the lecture and left the music. The way it was divided simply is where we naturally stopped while paying to the lecture. These pauses where the perfect place to divide up the work. As such, the album is an ambient piece that goes well with all audio where their is only speaking (but no music accompanied it). For instance, try listening to the album while watching a live stream of Occupy Wall Street, and you will understand what I mean. The music is meant to be played in the background, while reading, you guessed it, Marx. That was our  intention with this piece.

Contact Compilation 4 (2011): We are of


Its a hot little project, and as such the songs are flying onto the list, such that right on the heals of Contact Compilation 3 (2011), we have Contact Compilation 4 (2011). The next Contact Compilation, which is going to be number 5, is scheduled for at least a month away. The idea behind number 5 (2011) is that artist will be randomly paired and will have to produce music as such in these randomly assigned pairings. Could be something good, could be something bad... as the saying goes... but we are willing to take a shot at this happy little accident, our invitation to Contact Compilation. We are honored to be apart of what may prove to be a historical moment in music, and sound creation/manipulation... as such, we are learning that others have views of their work as we do, that it is not necessarily about writing songs, as such, its about working with sound, and on occasion this becomes what people normally refer to as music and a song... but they are all songs, these sound works. On Contact Compilation 4 our song too a different approach. Only getting a single minute, we decided to write a little conceptual piece on the phrase "we are of". Please come and check out what we have come up with... each step is an improvement going in every-direction (EZ23), this is not about progress towards perfection, as much as it about working to explore what we can do with what we have to work from, as the world is given, we... in the middle and from whence we travel, from whence we start... and that tree, that one over there, its is weeping, can you hear it? and the other, the other is so much more...  a face, a hand, sweet on the brow, and ax sharp from the grinding... silly lover light us don't leave us now, but leave us, not to far away nor in those oceans, far off past the milky-way... ;)
