An Uncondemning Update: A Report to i.E.

Its been a while since we have actually updated what is going on with Thee Uncondemning Monk project (Thee UM). Well, first off... we are still planning to release an older project called The Broken Music Box and that is slated to be released sometime between now and summer. Also daily experiments continue. Recently we have been drawn to drum, bass, and horn combiniations, but are still working with noise and ambient sounds in our daily soundwerks.

For those unfamiliar, Thee UM engages in what are ideally daily experimental sound exercises. The basic idea is to create music in one take, from scratch, off the cuff, min. looping (looping optional, but must be create then not before), and most done in one take, or at least if there is a 2nd or 3rd take, its done in one shot through, each layer. After which there is sometime some play with filters and effect on each layer or the entire master, which is all encoded on the soundwerks original working title name. We take some of these, the ones we are smitten with, and put them onto soundcloud for people to enjoy, or use to create new works from. This is a hyienic practice, like brushing thee teeth, this is for the washing out all cosmic debris.

We really want to leave it to the page, the Open Transmission Bandcamp, to explain what is going on with the project, the purposes of the transmission, because many of the tracks, as you click on them, you will discover that they, each artist/band, tell a bit about why they did what they did for the compilation. Here is what The Uncondemning Monk had to say about their solo track, "Type Writer and Blue Tomorrows Yesterday" (Thee UM [Fr. 462] as has a Third Mind co-authored type track on the release, that track is with Professor Sonic [Fr. 402], and its entitled "Deep Seeded Tide"):

The soundwerk entitled, “Type Writer & Blue Tomorrows Yesterday,” by Thee Uncondemning Monk (UM), is part of a daily hygienic practice of soundwerk. We call these soundwerks because what Thee UM is interested in is not making music, per se, but rather the manipulation of sound as such. As such we have no commitment to any musical style, genera, form, etc., and are always experimenting with whatever comes our way. It is a hygienic practice, as such, because it at once is a practice aimed at clearing the mind (which is body, which is soul, all are one) of accumulated debris. We see this practice of soundwerking as a daily practice not unlike that of brushing one’s teeth. That is we hope to see soundwerkings done by everybody, which everybody, especially today with our increased access to the tools that make such endeavors possible, in this so-called digital age or our present state of technology via personal computers, are afforded. We are also inspired by David Lynch’s commitment to using digital instead of film, for very similar reasons. There is a great interview with Lynch on this subject included in the extended edition of his latest work, Inland Empires. Indeed, the title of the song is a reference to that film, in which they are making (a remake, of an unfinished) film, entitled, “Blue Tomorrows”. We work layer by layer, one take, off the cuff, each time, and each and every layer. As such, we started this track with a drum layer which, to us, sounded like a type writer, hence the first part of the title of our present soundwerk. We continued on adding layers, each done in one take, off the top of our head (off the cuff), which has a total of four layers; including the 1st drum track we worked from. Each layer changes the work, and as such, as we get into the work itself, it becomes a matter of acting and reacting to the work until we feel its full, complete, finished. We have been doing this long before we found out that David Lynch works in a very similar manner with his films, this process of once you have the idea, for us an initial track, that that work flows in this acting/reacting sort of way, until one calls it, ‘done.’ We hope our little exposé has illuminated you as to what we are striving for with our work. The Newest Project is number 6, and here is just a bit, before we say ado, about that, AIN23, project:

The 23 Seconds ov Time project was largely inspired by 2 literary concepts.. one is a poetic exercise called "An Exquisite Corpse" where poets write a line that follows line before it in a larger poem that is unseen by the participants until completion. and the 2nd was the Burroughs/Gysin "Cut Up Method" where a piece of literature is taken apart line by line with scissors, and then the lines are re-assembled randomly to form a new work... The 23SOT project tries to address these themes within the context of AUDIO submissions...both of these inspiring notions come from the literary creative world.. With this project we are trying to apply these creative literary strategies to sound art to see what sort of creative surprises await ...the cuts are submitted randomly by participants and placed in a larger file encompassing them all in the order they arrive..the completed assemblage includes each submission, one after the other..as one whole piece...as something new.

Around the Corner: A Broken Music Box

Year and years ago now, there was a project called The Broken Music Box. The project was largely manned by Phil Indrick, and supported by the Uncondemning Monk, as we would work to build various beats and textures. The original project is somewhat lost, and amongst what is lost is a soundtrack to the movie Nosferatu and another for Metropolis. IF we can ever get a hold of Phil and get him to finally launch either of those projects, as they were intended as live soundtracks played to these two films, shown independently of each other of course, or at least serially. But what we do have to offer is a take of the Broken Music Box Project, called A Broken Music Box: 23 Letters Collection (missing letters), exhibiting the potential of what was and may still be, if lines of transmission can reach out to Phil, lest we start another broken music box machine.

ÆIA, KotF, and Babalon

Greetings from Thee UM;

Let's get right to business. Here is what is going on with Thee Uncondemning Monk project. In the order they occur to me to relate to thee... The booklet, Æ (Autonomous Explorations), is still being worked on. We have decided to not make the 22nd of September deadline, and as some already know, push the release date away, until the end of the year. This will not only afford us more time to polish the work, and save capital for its distribution (remember the 1st run will be free, minus shipping and handing for some locations), but it also affords us time to make this work more collaborative. In the coming months we will be seeking art (in any medium conclusive to paper publication), including textual works, hybrids, and whatnot for what we hope will be the abstract/concrete basis for the larger project, Autonomous Explorations In-Finite Academy (ÆIA).

Autonomous Explorations In-Finite Academy (ÆIA): the goal of this headless non-organization is to aide not only individuals and groups to forge bonds, butter-but to facilitate in the desired 'education' of participants and allies sympathetic to our general cause. ÆAI aims at opening a space for the realization and survival of our groups in turbulent times marked by the post-post of modernity, and as well of what gets subsumed in the term Capitalism. In these spaces of recognition, we seek to keep open relations of power so they do not centralize. Our interest our Thee's interest, as U are sought out to provide not only content, but rigorous analysis of our technological situation, in the most general and immediate of forms, whether this technology be in the fields, or virtually established via inter and intra nets... many of our members are members of universities but seek to work outside the confines of this business; and hence we offer our works freely to all interested parties, whether the topic be law, copyright and trademarks, or information on growing food in an apartment, aquaponics, we seek to enrich ourselves with knowledge that is directly related to our desire to create spaces that allow occultural experimentation and the becoming of beings...

The next project we would like to make mention of is The Keepers of the Fire (KotF), and its 1st LP. This too was to be released on the 22nd of September, 2012, but was also held back. The reason for this unexpected change in the release date has primarily to do with minor organizational problems which are at the heart of our international collective as enterprise. We seek no monetary gain, at this point, for our works, although we do encourage you to help out individual artists with money if you are able and have a will to do so. But our work is the work of coming together through and in the medium of communion, sound, that has worked to discretely unite some of the members of our collective, KotF. As such, we expect the first LP to be release sometime mid October, 2012. As for the continuance of the Keeper's collective, that remains to be seen, although it is socially a fact that of the twenty plus members at least five of them are irreversibly bonded and will continue to produce works along the lines of the Keeper's exploration into what Brion Gysin and William S. Burroughs, along with Sommerville, call The Third Mind. Indeed, moving beyond cut-ups, in layering techniques, that often paint with music in the most materialistic form, that often leaves abstraction to taint and tint via song titles, these open ended works, which only take a few members to fill. So, please continue to be patient with us as we work to get this 1st (last?) LP of the KotF on bandcamp, with art works, this Oct. For a taste of the work, you can hear some of what will be on the LP by watching (listening to) the film, A Bataille Film, released this summer in Porta, Portugal. And lastly for now, two inter-related projects concerning Walter Benjamin, and "The Whore of Babylon" or Babalon. Or project is not a wish for the past but rather a redemption of not only what haunts the present, what remains in ruin of the present-past-future, but of this future that lies in promise as a horizon we cannot yet see beyond, and yet are laying the foundations of such, in our times... our project turns to the work of Benjamin and his essays on Language, seeking to detect changes in his conceptualize of language as knowledge, as well as his identification of instrumental reason, and knowledge thereof and by, IN, that in this world which silences nature and cause her lament, this lamentation is revealed in the perversion that is the Whore of Babalon, and as such we take her as our image, but not to seek a return to some past. Rather we seek to explode these images, and set free the future-now which will ride on new logics and modes of communion that differ from our present role/gender situations that still play in the binary field. Hence our work is both creative and academically rigorous. If you get inspiration from our work, please be kind enough to acknowledge us... for who else has notice that Walter has named Eve like a child, forgetting it seems that to know is to become of one flesh, this other knowledge of Genesis, and re-generation.

And so we conclude our update. Continue to stay tuned over the coming months, as we will be giving more details on these and other projects as they emerge and unfold, crystallize and fade through fruition.

An Update occures

Greetings,

Seems like 'long time no speak' but really its all relative, and speaking of relativity and POV type shit, we have done an aspect switch/re-hash of playing acoustic guitar and singing/ranting the blues.

Its NEW, as we were never one to sing that frequently in multiple person situations... we would even get shy in the forest, without 'human' presence sitting quietly in the flesh, 'listening to us' as they do something else. Yeah, so this is branching out for us in a familiar way, as there has been times when we have play the streets for money, change and what not, bills please, to help us get food and from point A to X, Y, ... and so on... so singing while playing is a new exercise, as we need the poetic free form that blues and other guitar centered styles can offer us, at this particular moment in time. The UM lost their Queen. And in that lost a New Queen emerged.

Babalon Seal

Thee Uncondemning Monk has rightly begun a devotional to The Whore of Babalon. As such we are learning the occult history of this mythological archetype of dismissed historic/cultural iconography. We have only started to walk the path that shall ultimately be our devotional to Babalon, as SHE is much and great in our position of awe and trepidation. WE gather to take ourselves on bellies before the greatness that we have, up until now, forsaken. Recognizing past short-comings we have devoted our work towards a devotional of our Goddess, Babalon. All Hail the NEW FLESH!

An Uncondemning Current Project Report

So much news, so little time. We have much to blog about but not the time to blog about it. What are we working on?

Well, The Keepers of the Fire collective has set a date for their first international release, an LP, which does not have, as of yet, a title (its still known as the first LP). The KotF collective is planning to release their first LP this September 22, 2012. Now some of you were able to preview their work on A Bataille Film. Concerning that, we are still patiently awaiting footage of the two day, July 7th & 8th, 2012 Bataille Event, held in Porta, Portugal. Our Portuguese contact will be getting us that, perhaps sometime this August. Also, please note that T.O.P.Ē. has Δ to Æ (Autonomous Explorations and the lesser know ÆIA, Autonomous Explorations In-Finite Academy). We mention Æ because there will be a Free Booklet for Æ, as in introduction to this non-organization (at least the first run, and then open in a public-domain way, as a Ratio Zero Publication of AIN23, the details on copyright and trademark issue have not been decided as this is an important issues which we are fighting, TO SHARE IS DIVINE; also OT3M, Anti-Control, Art Cult, and Æ members, ask about the TOPE-I Google Drive keep our library)

On another note there are a series of projects that we are hoping to contribute to. Right now we would like to speak about two of these. One called The Empire of Bliss, and the other The AIN23 23 Seconds of Time Project (23 SoT). And instead of describing Empire of Bliss to you, we, as is our tradition, will let them speak for themselves: [start quote] What binds us is our shared interest ( euphemistically speaking ) for urban life, magick, DIY culture, (anti)modernity and oneirology. An “Empire of Bliss” does not refer to an empire in the historical sense with its hierarchical structures, rigid bureaucracies and standing armies. It refers to the true empire, the inner domain. An empire that has been explored by mystics and magicians for centuries [end quote].

Now as just a few days back, AIN23 is excepting all sorts of audio for its fifth installation/volume of the 23 SoT project, which they describe as a cross between a cut-up and [start quote] a poetic exercise called "An Exquisite Corpse" [end quote]. Two very interesting projects. The Empire of Bliss is looking for compositions of sound that deal with, well again, we use their words: [start quote] Looking for sound artists to join in on Empire Of Bliss' Apocalyptic Summer net-compilation. Send in tracks dealing with anything related to the endtimes, babalon, squatting, aliens, TAZ, … Keep your submissions under 10 minutes so everybody gets an equal share. Support Artists -- You Make IT Happen ! ! !

With less than 58 hours left, and even less by the time you read this blog (you have until the 16th of July, 2012), there is no time to waste. Only $145 to go, Rachael Please is in the homestretch but we need YOUR HELP to make this happen. We were given permission by RVR records to make a little video pitching the importance of this album, and if you listen closely, you will find out why I am so passionate about this album. Rachael Please is like, no, not like, they are a fever dream, with intimate knowledge of alienation that only those whom have been on the outer-realms of the social order can know ("the loser, substance abuser, broken hearted, and the retarded... 'cause I think we're beautiful"-- Warrior Soul, "Losers"). Hospitals of all stripes are presences of this home-sick atmosphere. A malaise of days gone past bye; of marshmallow people, and serotonin poisoned hopes over caste in burning red skylines.

You are not simply supporting an album. Yes you are doing that, but you are moreover supporting a group of artists. We don't know what more we can say. Listen to the video, listen to their music, and then take the time, and some money, and make this happen.
